A 55-year-old Mercedes-Benz W110 lives again on BMW power

The Mercedes-Benz W110 had sold a solid 225,000 units in the first five years of production, but left the factory for good in 1968. Tuners are the only ones interested in it right now, sometimes with impressive results.

Tony, who owns this specific Benz, claims he wanted a reliable everyday driver and not a swanky restomod. To make this a reality, he dismantled the old 54-hp (40-kW) engine and put a second-gen BMW E30 powertrain in its place. The power should be close to 200 hp (150 kW), unless we are mistaken.

The rest of the mods reinforce the idea of “everyday driver”. There is a near-silent exhaust, soft air-ride suspension with electronic adjustments, and a completely remade interior. The body retains its classical shape and steers clear of tacky mods.
