Mercedes-Benz EQB celebrates international debut

Mercedes-Benz introduced the EQB – an all-electric variant of the GLB SUV – in China in April, and has now finally revealed an international version designed for the USA and Europe markets as well.

The car comes in two dual-engine specifications named 300 and 350. Counterintuitively, the former makes 228 PS (225 hp / 168 kW) and needs 8 seconds to go from nothing to 100 km/h (62 mph). The latter packs 292 PS (288 hp / 215 kW) and performs the sprint in 6.2 seconds. Both max out at 160 km/h (99 mph).

When the EQB reaches the market, it will primarily have to compete against the Tesla Model Y and the Audi Q4 e-tron. Both rivals offer more driving range (around 300 miles / 483 km), while the EQB makes do with a moderate-sized 66.5-kWh battery and 419 km (260 miles) of range.

The EQB will also become Mercedes’ first EV to go into production in Hungary (the Chinese spec is being made in Beijing). Prices remain to be announced.

On the outside, the new car sports a fake front grille similar to those found on other EQ cars, DRLs spanning the entire width of the front fascia, aerodynamically shaped 20-inch wheels, a LED strip in the back, and a modified body kit that makes it 50 mm (2 inches) longer than its ICE-powered counterpart.
