New Mercedes-Benz EQC hits town roads

Mercedes-Benz EQC hasn’t even been released on some of the planned markets – such as the United States – yet, but the manufacturer feels the need to upgrade it to the next generation.

The all-electric crossover/SUV was announced in the fall of 2018 (watch the announcement video here) and entered production in Bremen, Germany in May 2019. It used the GLC chassis and was mostly a middle-ground vehicle that corners were cut upon to make it affordable. Among other things, it has a shorter wheelbase and a smaller battery than the Jaguar I-Pace despite being larger, and lacks any kind of front trunk.

The new EQC will benefit from being built on an EV-specific platform Mercedes is currently designing for its future EQ models. The vehicle spotted on the streets today is a mere test mule wearing the old body, and we likely won’t be seeing the production body until 2022.

Overall, it seems likely that the EQC may reach certain markets after the generation change.
