Video: Mercedes-Benz EQC 4x4² spied testing again, inexplicably

The Mercedes-Benz EQC 4x4² is an impressive all-electric SUV without debuted in October 2020 as a pure design study without any production prospects. Now, the car has suddenly been spotted on a public road. What could it mean?

Our main theory is that Mercedes-Benz could be using the concept to try out new components or features, especially off-road-focused ones. When the car hit the spotlight, it had a whopping 293 millimeters (11.45 inches) of ground clearance thanks to specially designed portal axles.

The EQC 4x4² caught on camera now hasn’t changed at all since its original premiere. You can have a good look at its individual features, because there is no test mule camo of any sort. The most prominent of these are wheels, strongly flared arches, and meaty off-road tires.

Could Mercedes have changed its mind regarding the market viability of the EQC 4x4²? We have our doubts. Sales of such cars have been booming lately, so one cannot rule out the possibility, but the odds seem small.
