Mercedes E-Class EV family gets 3 new AMG variants

Media first learned in February this year that Mercedes was working on an all-electric E-Class range. The first test vehicle was spotted testing in March, and now, the company has officially registered the model names EQE 43, 53 and 63.

All three names obviously refer to the upcoming battery-powered counterparts of Mercedes-AMG E-Class cars.

It was revealed earlier that the standard EQE model would ship with dual electric motors exceeding 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW) and 765 Nm (564 lb-ft) of torque in total. Sources reported that Mercedes would offer it with a large traction battery rated for approximately 600 km (400 miles) of range. The range-topping AMG model will likely be twice as powerful as the abovementioned base spec, because it will have to compete against the BMW M5 EV with its 1,020 PS (1,006 hp / 750 kW).

The Stuttgart automaker will utilize its EVA platform for the EQE series, fitting each vehicle with rear-wheel steering, smart air suspension and an autonomous driving system.
