Mercedes-Benz G-Class EV rumored to be coming to IAA Munich 2021

Mercedes-Benz confirmed in July last year that its EQG model – an all-electric version of the G-Class – would arrive on the market by 2024. According to the latest info from Autocar, however, an early prototype will be shown soon at the IAA Munich expo.

The EQG will sport the same overall design as the G-Class except for a gloss-black panel where the radiator grille usually is. It will retain its body-on-frame construction with some optimizations made to accommodate an electric powertrain.

The bottom-mounted battery could be taken straight from the current EQS, and the off-roader might also make use of portal axles like the ones used by the recently spied 2022 G-Class 4x4 Squared (shown in the gallery here).
