Mercedes-EQ, the subordinate brand Mercedes founded for purely electric car production four years ago, has so far only announced two models: the EQC and the EQV. Things should change next year with the coming of four new EVs, however.
The EQS liftback shown in the video will become the flagship of the new range. It will come based on the EVA platform and draw inspiration from the dual-engined Vision EQS Concept. Powertrain details are unknown, but the concept car had 476 PS (469 hp / 350 kW) and 760 Nm (560 lb-ft) of torque. Production will begin in the first half of 2021 in Factory 56, Sindelfingen, Germany. An AMG-powered variant should emerge a year after that packing 612 PS (604 hp / 450 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque.
A compact SUV called the EQA will go into production next year in Rastatt, Germany and Beijing, China. The crossover vehicle will be based on the MFA2 platform and will essentially provide a nature-friendly alternative to the current GLA. Mercedes-EQ had intended to debut it this year, but had to postpone it due to selling its Ambach factory where it used to assemble Smart-branded cars.
The EQB will debut as an electric counterpart to the GLB and will be nearly identical to the EQA powertrain-wise. It will go into production in Kecskemét, Hungary and Beijing more or less simultaneously with the EQA.
The EQE business sedan will be made in Bremen, Germany and the BBAC factory in China.
Finally, EQS-SUV and EQE-SUV models targeting the U.S. market are expected to hit the production lines in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 2022.
