Mercedes-Benz EQS spotted running nearly camo-free

The luxury-laden EQS, Mercedes-Benz’ next flagship running on electric power, has been spied and photographed with only minimal camouflage on.

While the newcomer appears sized similarly to the current S-Class, its proportions are completely different: the hood is short, the rear is sloped, and the cabin is long and spacious with minivan-style windowlets in the a-pillars.

The car takes advantage of a platform known as the Modular Electrical Architecture (MEA), which enables arranging internals in a desired fashion for optimum load-out and maximum interior space. It avoids engineering compromises inherent in BEVs based on traditional ICE cars.

According to reports, the EQS will feature dual electric motors mounted one per axle rated at 400 hp (300 kW) or above. The driving range will come close to 700 km, or 435 miles.

The production is scheduled to begin at the company’s main factory near Stuttgart, Germany. The other EQ Series vehicles are currently assembled elsewhere: the EQA in Rastatt and the EQC in Bremen.

Once the luxury sedan hits the market, it will compete for customers’ attention against the likes of the Audi e-tron GT, Porsche Taycan, and Tesla Model S. Sales will begin later this year, although specific dates remain to be announced.
