Mercedes-AMG has been making headlines a lot recently, entering the electric car market with the AMG EQS (shown here) and following up with the hybrid AMG GT 63 S E Performance. Naturally, some of the less popular models will have to free up space in the lineup.
In an interview to Autocar, Mercedes-AMG CEO admitted that the company was planning to shrink its model range soon. He added that only entry-level models would be affected, while high-performance cars should be safe. The reasons are mundane and understandable: faced with the need to develop their own electric car platform from scratch, carmakers need substantial funds that they can usually only get by axing the less popular products.
He also pointed out that AMG was considering furthering its cooperation with Formula 1 engine designer HPP to boost the AMG lineup.
