Mercedes-Benz releases affordable versions of the EQV & eVito

The all-electric Mercedes-Benz eVito Tourer van debuted a couple of years ago with rather unimpressive drivetrain specs and range, so the company phased it out last year in favor of a more powerful, but also more expensive version. Now, a different wallet-friendly variant is coming to the market.

But first, let’s recap the technical specifications for context. The original electric van made 116 PS (114 hp / 85 kW) and 295 Nm (218 lb-ft) of torque. Its battery was rather small at 35 kilowatt-hours and maxed out at 186 km (115.6 miles) of range.

After a rather unenthusiastic reception, Mercedes replaced it with a higher spec rated at 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW), 366 Nm (270 lb-ft) of torque, 90 kilowatt-hours of power storage, and 370 kilometers (230 miles) of WLTP-rated range.

The third eVito Tourer that comes to the market soon has a middle-ground battery rated at 60 kWh, which translates into 217-239 km (135-148.5 miles) of driving depending on the situation. The kit charger maxes out at 50 kW, but buyers can opt for an 80kW one capable of replenishing the battery juice from 10 to 80 percent in 35 minutes.

The entry-level eVito targets economically-minded customers and those who mainly travels short distances. Its smaller battery lets it weigh around 150 kg (330 lbs) less than the Mk2, which officially means you can load it with an extra 150 kg of cargo. Unfortunately, the ‘affordable’ claim has no specific price tag attached to it yet, so we’ll just to wait for the announcement.

In related news, Mercedes-Benz has expanded the EQV lineup. Apart from the EQV 300, which shares its powertrain and battery with the abovementioned high-end eVito, buyers may now consider going for a lower-priced EQV 250. The main difference is once again the battery, which comes in at 60 kilowatt-hours and grants between 213 and 236 km (132.4–146.6 miles) of range. Unlike the cheaper eVito, the kit charger included with the EQV already supports 80kW for faster charging.
