Mercedes-Benz has taken its newest G-Class SUV through the entire course of Euro NCAP crash tests. How well did it fare? Let us find out.
First and foremost, the car scored a hefty 90% in passenger and driver safety. During a frontal collision with a non-rigid obstacle (oncoming vehicle) and a rigid one (concrete wall), excess loads were only detected in the chest areas of the driver and the front passenger. The latest G-Class also scored the maximum number of points in lateral collision with a car and a concrete pole. The rear collision test indicated that the rear passengers are prone to suffering whiplash neck injuries.
The Euro NCAP committee has awarded the G-Wagen 83% in Children’s Safety and 78% in Pedestrian Safety (the rigid A-pillars and hood rims may be lethal during a collision with a pedestrian).
Electronic driver aids scored 72%, with the automatic emergency brake receiving the most praise.
Following the test series, Euro NCAP has awarded the new generation of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class 5 stars out of 5 for safety.
The Seat Tarraco and the Honda CR-V have also received their Euro NCAP ratings recently. Both were awarded the maximum 5 stars. Interestingly, the Spanish Tarraco SUV scored an impressive 97% in front passenger and driver safety.
