Mercedes-Benz G-Class Professional isn’t going anywhere just yet

Good news for all Mercedes-Benz G-Class enthusiasts: the company has reached the decision to continue production of its previous-generation W461 series. Furthermore, it plans to attract major investment into bringing the series up to date with the latest trend in the car industry.

Mercedes-Benz specified that the newly produced cars will only be sold in Germany, Australia and the Middle East, because legislation in some countries prohibits the sales of Euro-5 compliant vehicles.

The series will be available in all three of its main modifications: Estate, 6x6 and Cab-Chassis. All three will ship with differential lock, transfer gearbox and permanent 4WD.

Mercedes-Benz won’t be offering any kind of body kits or interior trim options in this series. All cars will ship in the base trim version, equipped with a 3.0-liter diesel engine capable of 185 hp (138 kW) and coupled with a five-speed automatic transmission.

Even though there is a steady demand for vehicles like the G-Class Professional, no other manufacturer has anything similar to offer. Among other institutions, the w461 G-Wagen is highly popular among security services and government authorities.
