Video: Brabus’ armor-clad Mercedes G-Class cost explained in detail

Ever wondered why armored cars cost as much as they do? News articles often gloss over the important details that contribute to the final price of a custom car, so a clear understanding of such details can be valuable. In her latest video, Supercar Blondie provides just that.

To those of you who don’t remember, let’s remind that Brabus launched its Invictus line of armored vehicles in 2020. There are three options to choose from called Pure, Luxury, and Mission, and the Mercedes-AMG G63 featured in the video is a Mission spec.

The off-roader boasts VR6-grade ballistic protection, expandable to VR6 Plus ERV if you need it to be explosion-proof as well as bulletproof. The seats inside have been specifically designed to provide comfort to people in flak jackets escorting very important persons.

The protection adds nearly a ton (2,200 lbs) to the weight of the stock G-Wagen, necessitating an engine power boost and a suspension upgrade. Thanks to a Brabus B40S-800 package, the example in the video squeezes 800 PS (789 hp / 588 kW) and 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) of torque out of its four-liter bi-turbo V8. Bolstered like this, it stands a much better chance of outrunning a chase, should anything like that ever happen.

But what else is there to justify the €354,600 starting price? Watch the video by Supercar Blondie and get an idea!
