We reported several days ago that Mercedes-Benz paused new V8 car deliveries in the USA citing supply issues. Road&Track now claims that a Mercedes-AMG executive gave it a brief explanation of the situation.
Philipp Schiemer, Head of AMG, G-Class and Maybach directions, reportedly admitted that the company was dissatisfied with the quality of model year 2022 cars. Since quality comes first on the Mercedes priority list, additional testing will be required before shipments can continue. He refrained from further comment.
Road&Track points out that pausing sales would leave the German marque without its best-selling models in North America, a rather unusual situation for the company to find itself in. We also know that Aston Martin will continue to receive Mercedes engines as per the agreement, no delays. Another unanswered question is why the V8 quality issues only affected the U.S. market and not Europe.
