Mercedes will bring the next generation of its cheapest GLA crossover/SUV to the 2019 International Motor Show Germany opening in Frankfurt in September. The company says it will start shipping the cars in Europe straight after the premiere.
The new GLA uses the modern A-Class architecture and is the smallest SUV on the lineup.
In terms of features, the new generation will be getting an MBUX infotainment system ‘with an AI of its own’. This means that the multimedia system will memorize the voice commands given to it and profile users according to their preferences.
The engine range includes a 1.3-liter turbocharged Renault–Nissan unit that produces 150 hp (112 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb×ft) on the Renault Arkana series. Its actual performance on the GLA remains unannounced (and could be different). The other option is a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine. Both can link to a manual or automatic transmission and support both FWD and AWD.
Several performance-packed AMG trims will be added to the lineup later. The strongest of these will boast 420 hp (313 kW) under the hood.
