The Mercedes-Benz GLA enjoys excellent popularity in the mini-SUV segment of the market, with nearly 5,000,000 copies sold worldwide so far. Today, the company has shared a few details concerning the upcoming second generation of the model.
Thanks to around 100 mm (4 inches) of added height, the new GLA will look more like a full-fledged SUV. It will become 20 mm (0.8”) shorter, but the wheelbase length will gain 30 mm (1.2”). Rear passengers will know to appreciate the added legroom, and the second-row seats will now come with a number of adjustments.
Other than that, the interior and the engine range will be similar to those of the A-Class and the GLB. Performance-laden GLA AMG 35 and 45 will be added later, the top specification equipped with a class-leading 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo engine rated at 421 hp (314 kW).
In compliance with the modern trends, the Mercedes-Benz GLA Mk2 will also ship in a few hybrid versions, as well as a fully electric variant called the EQA, which will offer up to 480 kilometers (300 miles) of range.
