New Mercedes-Benz GLC hybrid spotted testing

The ICE-powered Mercedes-Benz GLC shown in the video here will switch generations in 2022, and its plug-in hybrid variant will arrive a year after that. In the meantime, here are some of its photos.

The new generation will be longer and wider, but less tall than the previous one. Pictured on the spy shots are side mirrors built into doors, slimmer headlights, and a number of redesigned elements including the grille and the front bumper with air intake.

While we don’t have any cabin shots to have you, the new GLC should debut with a trim similar to the new C-Class, including a digital dashboard and a large infotainment display.

In its current generation, the hybrid uses a 2.0-liter petrol turbo-four and an electric motor to produce 318 PS (314 hp / 234 kW). A 13.5-kWh battery gives it 39 kilometers (24 miles) of electric range at most. The new generation will see this powertrain overhauled for more power and 100 km (62 miles) of WLTP-rated range.

It has to be pointed out that the current-gen Mercedes-Benz GLC keeps losing customers: the sales dropped 12.8% in 2019 and proceeded to decline by 9.1% last year.
