Mercedes has expanded the engine selection available for its GLE SUV series in Europe. The cars used to ship with a choice between a turbocharged gasoline engine (367 hp / 274 kW) and a diesel unit (245 hp / 183 kW).
The series will now also ship with a 2.9-liter, twin-turbo diesel rated at 272 hp (203 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lbft) of torque when installed on the Mercedes 350d. It works in tandem with a nine-speed automatic transmission and AWD, enabling the car to accelerate 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.9 seconds and ultimately reach 230 km/h (143 mph).
