Range-topping Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe debuts at last

The S version of the GLE Coupe is finally here, and surprises are predictably few. The coupe-shaped SUV packs the same 4.0 V8 TT engine as its standard counterpart, assisted by EQ Boost to deliver 612 hp (456 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) to the wheels.

The transmission is nine-speed automatic, and the AWD system features an electronically controlled rear differential.

Getting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 3.8 seconds, which puts the GLE Coupe on par with its main rival, the BMW X6 M Competition.

Even in its simplest trim version, the car has roll stability control and adaptive air suspension that can change height automatically upon detecting a new road surface.

Distinctions from the non-coupe GLE 63 S include the company’s signature Panamericana radiator grille, differently styled bumpers, larger air intakes, a new exhaust system, and 22-inch wheels with a glimpse of performance brakes behind the spokes.

The inside space makes liberal use of Nappa leather and carbon fiber. There is an AMG steering wheel and sports seats. The infotainment can display lateral loads, lap times, engine and transmission oil temperature, and other motorsports-specific information.

The launch timeframe and pricing for the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe remain pending.
