Mercedes-Benz engineers have found a way to teach the new GLE to get out of a sand trap automatically and without any kind of external assistance. The new anti-skid system mode enables the vehicle to use its air suspension to “hop” out of sand.
The next-generation Mercedes-Benz GLE comes equipped with independent suspension. The system can adjust shock absorption parameters on a per-wheel basis and depending on the road surface quality. The car also features a two-range transfer gearbox.
A similar Sand Mode has actually already been implemented by the German company’s Japanese rival Toyota. The off-road cruise control enables the car to move reliably over uneven and crumbling surfaces.
The new Mercedes-Benz GLE will celebrate its official premiere sometime later in 2018.
