Mercedes-Maybach GLS facelift spied parked outdoors

While Mercedes is getting ready to launch its refreshed Maybach GLS model (probably sometime in 2023), the first spy photos suggest that it will look like the new S-Class.

The luxury soft-roader has a minimum of camo on its rear end and taillights, suggesting that it will either not change much at all compared to the current version, or that the company hasn’t decided on the changes yet. The taillights do look different, but we would expect something new in other departments as well, including bumpers, radiator grille and headlights.

As for the interior, it can be safely expected to get the same range of upgrades as the newest S-Class, including the latest MBUX infotainment unit and a large standalone display on the center console. The current GLS shown in the video here has a single horizontal screen that combines the digital dashboard and the infotainment into a single unit.

Another theory states that the GLS will not be getting any major technical upgrades until next generation. If true, then it will debut with only software updates and perhaps an S-Class Sedan steering wheel to show for being up to date.

The powertrain is the one area where any changes are unlikely. A 4.0-liter V8 rated at 558 PS (550 hp / 410 kW) and 730 Nm (538 lb-ft) of torque receives assistance from a 48V starter-generator that adds 22 PS (22 hp / 16 kW) and 250 Nm (183 lb-ft) of torque of its own.
