Formula One superstar Lewis Hamilton will attempt to convince Mercedes-Benz to use only synthetic and botanically grown materials for trimming car interiors.
Having become a vegan two years ago, the racer believes using animal skins for car interiors is intrinsically wrong. He emphasized that he was in perfect physical and mental health despite foregoing all animal foods, and just wanted to make the world better and the future brighter for all of us.
Even if Mercedes-Benz agrees to Hamilton’s reasoning, it will not be the world’s first company to do so. Tesla is already offering synthetic and vegetarian trim options with its cars, and such leading European manufacturers as Audi, Bentley, and Porsche are considering this move, too.
Predicting the customer reactions can be challenging in a situation like this, especially because many consumers of luxury value high-quality natural leather.
