The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class will be getting a plug-in hybrid specification named S 580e, which will stay on top of the new S-Class lineup.
The powertrain includes an inline-six engine with three liters of displacement, an electric motor built into the transmission, and a 28-kWh traction battery. The total output amounts to 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW), and a single charge is enough for 100 kilometers (62 miles) of WLTP-rated range.
The electrified S-Class will hit showroom floors across Europe next year and arrive in the United States later than that.
Other, non-electric versions of the new S-Class debuted earlier this week. The range includes three diesel engines and two gasoline ones, ranging from 286 to 435 horsepower (213 – 324 kilowatts, respectively).
