Too much gaudy finish on a Mercedes S-Class is a thing, apparently

The Mercedes S600L (W220) had been an icon of style and luxury for more than one decade, and as such, it was actively sought after by people of all trades, ranging from top managers and highly paid professionals to those pursuing shadier walks of life. Wanna guess who this ruined specimen belonged to?

Apparently, the owner did not care for the lackluster chrome detailing on his S-Class and decided to cover them in gold. The radiator grille, door moldings, headlight and taillight frames, even exhaust tips – everything was dipped in gold. The interior also fell victim to a gaudy and tasteless makeover based on light brown leather ranging from sandy to beige to cream all within one space. This inconsistency alone looks bad, but add the darker wood inserts and the abovementioned gold décor, and you’ve got a gypsy’s dream.

To be frank, looking at the car the first time we thought it was redeisgned by an unqualified carpenter with too much free time on their hands. But no, responsible for the project is none other than Klassen Automobile, a highly respected customization atelier. However, not even this could save the raunchy ride from infamy: despite only having around 23,000 km (14,300 miles) on the counter, it failed to sell even after its owner had dropped the price to €17,000.
