This Mercedes-Benz S 320 CDI (W221) may have plenty of mileage on the counter, but it still performs admirably on German speedways.
The 2006MY car has around 190,000 km (112,000 miles) under its belt and draws its power from a V6 diesel turbo rated at 235 PS (232 hp / 173 kW) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque. The manufacturer-rated maximum speed is 250 km/h (155 mph), but not many S-Class owners dare drive it this fast.
This specific example has been kept up in good condition all along, though, so a team of enthusiasts decided to see how fast – and how smoothly – it would go from standstill to its rated top speed. On a German autobahn, a GPS odometer saw the executive car zap 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 8.45 seconds – less than a second above the OEM time stated in the manual. It then proceeded to accelerate to 250 km/h (155 mph) in 26.17 seconds.
The test was deemed a success considering the weight (1.9 metric tons / 4,200 lbs), age (15 years), and mileage of the S 320. The team highlighted it excellent handling and smooth going even under stress.
