The first all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQ S scheduled for production in 2020-22

According to Michael Kelz, Mercedes’ head of development for the all-electric car department, the company is now working on a large-sized Mercedes-Benz EQ S sedan. If all goes according to plan, the vehicle should enter production somewhere between 2020 and 2022.

Coincidentally, it is in 2020 that the company plans to unveil the next generation of its gasoline-powered Mercedes-Benz S-Class series. Still, the battery-driven Mercedes-Benz EQ S is being built on a brand-new automotive platform and chassis. Therefore, it is going to look and feel nothing like its ICE counterpart.

Daimler AG, which includes Mercedes, plans to expand its electrified vehicle lineup to 20 different models by 2022. Half of these will get all-electric drivetrains; all will receive the model suffix EQ to tell them from the regular series.
