A 40-year-old Mercedes-Benz 380 SL modified beyond recognition by one of its former owners – singer Wayne Newton – will soon go under the hammer in Las-Vegas.
The car sports distinct retro looks with an aftermarket hood, fenders, rectangular headlights, door handles, a giant emblem, 16-inch BBS wheels, and golden accents inside.
The stock top makes way for a folding hard top that completely disappears inside the trunk when not needed. The remaining trunk volume did not allow for a spare wheel to be put in, so it was fastened to the lid, once again in that charming retro fashion.
The interior and the powertrain were allowed to stay stock. A 3.8-liter V8 drives the wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.
The car has around 2,000 miles (3,200 kilometers) on the clock and goes without reserve.
Wayne Newton found his fame performing in major Las-Legas casinos, where he was often compared to Elvis Presley. One of Elvis’ own cars – a 1969 Mercedes-Benz 600 (W100) – fetched U.S. $288,888 at an auction in December 2020.
