We have already seen spy photos of the new Mercedes-Benz SL, and an image showing a non-cladded pre-production car has been posted to Instagram recently. The poster claims they snapped it quickly during a private event, but some details can still be discerned.
Specifically, you can make out a windshield, a headlight unit, a part of the front bumper with what looks like a carbon application, and a wheel. The SL wears a vivid red paint.
It wouldn’t surprise us if Mercedes brought an AMG SL to the private presentation. In that case, it may have been powered by the same hybrid drivetrain as the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 E Performance: a four-liter V8 plus an electric motor jointly rated at 843 PS (831 hp / 620 kW).
Lower trims will make do with lesser motors, like 3.0-liter inline-six MHEV or non-electrified V8.
Mercedes has already disclosed what the interior of the new SL looks like (browse through our gallery to see the two available teasers). There are four seats, a cabriolet top (instead of roadster), and a touch-enabled infotainment screen with adjustable tilt.
The official premiere remains scheduled for October 20, 2021.
