Mercedes-AMG SL reveals interior

Camouflaged 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL prototypes show up on the streets from time to time, but if you wanted to have a closer look at the cabin instead, the German marque has a treat for you.

As you can see on the new official photos, the ‘hyper-analog’ cabin features round turbine-shaped air deflectors and a 12.3-inch digital gauge panel recessed into the dashboard to prevent sun flare when the car top is folded down.

The 11.9-inch MBUX touchscreen also received its own flare protection: the car can adjust its tilt using built-in mini-motors until the display is readable again. There are also new AMG menu items and multiple UI themes to choose between.

Other notable features include Burmeister audio, ambient lighting coming in 64 colors, a HUD, and Nappa leather for the seats. You can go for a dual-tone trim or specify a leather/microfiber combo.

Mercedes should officially introduce the new SL-Class in early fall or sooner.

In case you forgot, the new SL has been permanently moved to the AMG jurisdiction. As such, it will become lighter than before, trade its hardtop for a cloth top, and go AWD in all trims. The entry-level version will make do with a four-cylinder engine.

It will also transform from roadster to cabriolet, gaining a second seat row for passengers under 1.5 meters (4’11”). The last time Mercedes offered such a seat layout with the SL-Class was in its R129 generation in 1989–2001.
