Mercedes-Benz Sprinter motorhome boasts a full-fledged kitchen

In some countries, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter may have come to be firmly associated with the role of an urban shuttle van, but the tuning company Trakka has converted one into a fully featured motorhome complete with a kitchen, a bedroom, and a WC. Meet the Jabiru Sprinter Camper Van!

The third generation of the Sprinter provides the basis for the conversion. The van measures seven meters (23 ft.) long and incorporates a large bed for two, a shower cabin with a WC, a kitchen will a number of appliances, and a fridge than can rotate. Water is sourced from a 140-liter (37-gallon) tank and ultimately goes into an 80-liter (21-gallon) waste tank.

Among other things, the Jabiru Sprinter Camper Van houses a solar panel array plugged into a huge 300 kWh battery powering the stove, the boiler and the microwave oven. Other than that, the car comes powered by a six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine rated at 188 hp (140 kW). Diesel fuel is additionally used for cabin heating purposes. There is an air conditioner in the car already, but Trakka will install a second one if you feel that you need it.

The tuner ships the van in 2WD and AWD versions, but the latter comes at a considerable premium. Specifically, the standard Jabiru Sprinter Camper Van starts from U.S. $125,600, while its AWD counterpart begins at $139,600.

In other news, Mercedes-Benz is working on switching the Sprinter to electrical power. In its coming generation, the van will be powered by an eVito drivetrain including a 107-hp (80-kW) engine and a battery (41 or 55 kWh, depending on the version). The maximum driving range is estimated at 150 kilometers (93 miles).
