Mercedes-Benz has officially disclosed the main technical specifications of the upcoming eSprinter, an all-electric vehicle based on the popular gasoline-driven Sprinter van.
The new Mercedes-Benz eSprinter is going to get a single power engine capable of 115 hp (86 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb·ft) of torque. Test runs have proven that it can accelerate to 120 km/h (75 mph) without a problem, but the peak going speed was capped by the manufacturer at just 80 km/h (50 mph) to extend battery life.
Once it hits the showrooms, the new Mercedes-Benz eSprinter will be made available in two variants. One of these will offer 41 kWh in terms of battery capacity, whereas the other will ship with 55 kWh.
A representative of Mercedes-Benz stressed that the eSprinter van, with its 150 km (~93 mi) driving range and 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs.) cargo capacity, has been initially conceived as a purely urban vehicle. Industry professionals believe the van will be priced significantly above its ICE counterpart, which can be purchased at U.S. $50,000 and above.
