According to Auto Motor und Sport quoting Mercedes-Benz, the Mercedes-Benz X-Class pickup truck will go out of production in May 2020.
Rumors about the impending discontinuation of the X-Class had been circulating for quite some time now, and the official announcement puts a conclusive end to the commercially unsuccessful model. The luxury automaker’s Spanish factory will halt the assembly barely four months from now.
The company points out that it is constantly monitoring its global portfolio looking for underperforming products. The X-Class pickup turned out to be just one such product – too niche to be popular in countries outside of South Africa and Australia.
According to Mercedes-Benz reports, only around 16,700 trucks found new owners in 2018, followed by a dismal 15,300 units sold a year after that.
