An elderly Mercedes-Benz 190 E brings home €455k

A 1992 Mercedes-Benz 190 E has been sold for €455,000, or nearly 500,000 USD. It was one out of the four chases co-designed between AMG and Cosworth for the carmaker’s DTM racing team. Piloting it, Bernd Schneider scored four victories in a season.

The full name of the car is AMG-Mercedes 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II. It is the final version of the racing sedan that first hit the DTM track in 1984. The numeric values refer to the 2.5-liter engine designed with Cosworth to drive the wheels with 372 PS (367 hp / 274 kW). The Evolution II spec added a sophisticated aero kit with a giant rear wing.

In 1992, the Mercedes-Benz team claimed its first title in the DTM series, winning 16 races out of 24. It then proceeded to pass the racecar to the DTM team. The latter continued racing it until 1996, when the car was sold into private hands. The latest maintenance was in April.
