36 years ago, celebrating a century in business, Daimler AG requested Andy Warhol to produce a series of paintings named ‘Cars’, depicting the German manufacturer’s seven most iconic vehicles. This Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing was one of them.
Rewind to the present day, and German tuner Brabus got its hands on the original Gullwing coupe with the chassis number 198.040–5500629. Restoring it took more than six months, or around 4,500 workhours, and involved restoring nearly every detail by hand.
The 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine under the hood was rebuilt according to the strictest specification, and now makes 215 PS (212 hp / 158 kW). The cabin received a fresh portion of leather and fabric in their original combination, and the body was once again sprayed silver.
Of course, as any self-respecting Gullwing model, this 300 SL has doors that swing upwards when opened, resembling a gull’s wings.
