Mercedes-Benz developing a ChatGPT-powered virtual assistant

Mercedes-Benz hopes to improve the capabilities of its voice assistant mascots with the help of ChatGPT neural network. The company says it already reached an agreement with Microsoft and is now busy beta-testing the feature in the USA: all Mercedes owners with an MBUX infotainment system are welcome to join.

The manufacturer believes that using a trained linguistic model can expand the capabilities of the electronic assistant. More often than not, the software comes with a predetermined and therefore limited set of functions. In contrast, ChatGPT can maintain what effectively looks like a natural conversation with humans.

The developers of the feature intend to use the beta testing phase to collect information on the most frequently asked questions and answers, and then decide on its next optimization targets. The phase will last three months, during which data will be gathered from up to 900,000 MBUX owners in the United States. As soon as you opt in, an over-the-air software update should arrive and install itself automatically.

It is unknown whether the company plans on launching similar tests in other regions throughout the world, especially Europe and China.
