The German automaker says smart home owners will soon be able to issue voice commands to their home control centers without leaving their cars. A sophisticated system will be able to conduct a natural conversation, ask questions and understand your needs. The corresponding update will arrive to all recent Mercedes vehicles equipped with the MBUX infotainment system and the Voice Assistant feature.
The company says owners will be able to lead a dialogue with the system using free colloquial speech. For instance, they can ask, “Is anyone home right now?” The system will respond along the lines of, “I detected movement in the kitchen two minutes ago.” Asking “Is everything alright?” will give you a brief report.
The assistant can recognize and answer questions regarding the status of any particular smart home component and toggle them – for instance, you can ask it to turn the lights on or off in any given room, open a door or set the AC to a certain temperature.
Perhaps the best thing is that the on-board electronics of Mercedes cars will support all these features automatically and free of charge.
