The German automaker has opened a new charging station for its EVs, packing it with features to make the process of charging faster and more comfortable. There’s only one such station in existence right now – close to the Mercedes HQ in the USA, but the company has plans for more than 400 such outlets in North America alone.
Multiple 400kW charging terminals enable topping up the batteries of the company’s flagship EVs in 20 minutes or so. The roof above has LED lighting all around, which is powered by solar panels. New charging indicators mounted 4.6 meters (15.1 feet) above ground light up in red or green to tell those driving by which chargers are occupied and which ones are in standby.
The territory around the complex is designed to maximize accessibility for everyone from the disabled to commercial transport drivers (the maximum supported vehicle length is 8 meters, or 26 feet). A rest area for the waiting drivers is provided with tables, chairs, sofas, a WC, and vending machines.
