Back in 2022, Mercedes-Benz announced a new luxury vehicle lineup called Mythos Series for dedicated car collectors. The company had been silent about it until recently, but has now revealed the first entry in the series – a roadster named PureSpeed. It’s still a concept at this time, but expected to reach production in 2025 capped at 250 units.
All pricing details remain to be revealed. The car debuted before the Monaco Grand Prix start this week, which is symbolic because the company loaded it with Formula technologies. It even has the F1-certified roll bar known as the halo.
Rather than being a completely new and standalone development, the car seen here is the latest Mercedes-AMG SL reimagined as a two-seat speedster wearing a minimal windscreen instead of a full-size front glass.
In fact, the whole front end looks drastically different from stock. AMG’s trademark “Panamericana” grille with vertical bars is nowhere to be seen, replaced with a smaller mesh grille bearing an AMG logo. The aerodynamic humps behind the seats mimic those of the 300 SLR racer that Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson piloted to victory at the 1955 Mille Miglia marathon. The color scheme pays homage to another racecar, the one that won the 1924 Targa Florio race (the starting number 10 also comes from that one). Last but not least, much of the carbon-fiber body kit looks borrowed from the glorious Mercedes-AMG One.
