The newly revealed Mercedes-AMG GT Track Series is the most powerful and capable AMG GT on record, but you won’t be driving it on public roads.
The AMG subdivision will be making 55 such racers to celebrate its 55th birthday. Prices in Europe will begin from €369,000.
The Track Series comes powered by the same 4.0-liter V8 as the road-worthy GT Black Series, but it enjoys a number of racing-friendly improvements alongside a small performance boost. The output rises by 4 hp (3 kW) and 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) of torque to a total of 734 PS (724 hp / 540 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque. A six-speed sequential racing box is used instead of the standard seven-speed DCT, and there is an added adjustable differential. Launch times and other such specifics remain unannounced.
The chassis benefits from adjustable Bilstein shocks and sway bars. The safety aids on board support flexible configuration and fine tuning, in particular, the ABS.
The body sports an optimized aero kit with a new specially designed splitter, an updated front bumper with side canards, side sills with vents for rear brake cooling, a new diffuser, and an adjustable rear wing. The new kit generates considerably more downforce, Mercedes-AMG says. The car rides on a new set of 18-inch wheels.
Some of the bodywork is now carbon, the air intakes on the hood are new, and the cabin is stripped of all things not strictly necessary for the track. As a result, the whole weighs in at just 1.4 metric tons (under 3,100 lbs).
Interior highlights include controls and gauges styled after those found in GT3 and GT4 racecars. Most comfort features are gone, but the driver’s bucket seat can be adjusted flexibly. The same applies to the pedals and the steering wheel, which AMG designed from the ground up specifically for this vehicle.
