Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe caught on camera near the ‘Ring

The Mercedes-Benz SL introduced late last year will not be the only vehicle of its kind; the new AMG GT Coupe will be based on the same chassis. Here is a fresh video from the Nürburgring area showing an early prototype in action.

You can hear the engine sound coming from a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. In all likelihood, Mercedes will be offering the GT Coupe in two flavors, one being either GT 53 or GT 55 and the other GT 63. The example in the video is clearly the top spec.

In the latest SL 55, the same engine churns out 476 PS (469 hp / 350 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. The SL 65 squeezes 585 PS (577 hp / 430 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) out of the same block. The convertible comes with two driven axles by default, but it remains to be seen whether the new AMG GT Coupe wears the 4Matic badge, too.

Despite the still present camouflage, it is clear that the car sports an aggressive front bumper and large air intakes. There are no photos of the cabin, but it would make sense for it to have only two seats (the SL-Class has four).
