Car spotters have tracked down a disguised second-generation example of the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe being driven around in the Alps before its official premiere. Coming with a new platform and improved drivetrains to the market, the supercar looks like a more competitive alternative to its first generation.
The spy footage shows an AMG GT shod in massive tires and sounding like it still has the familiar 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 under the hood. It is also expected to be available with an inline four-cylinder engine and a range-topping hybrid system, which is currently rated at 843 PS (831 hp / 620 kW) and 1,400 Nm (1,033 lb-ft) of torque in the GT 63 SE Performance.
To wrap up the production of the first generation, Mercedes produced a limited run of the AMG GT Coupe Black Series equipped with the abovementioned engine boosted to 730 PS (720 hp / 537 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. The farewell series also sported a unique aerodynamic kit and other features that enabled it to set a new Nürburgring record among production vehicles.
