Mercedes-AMG has debuted an AMG GT variant designed for GT2 racing. The car comes equipped with a four-liter, twin-turbo V8 rated at 707 PS (697 hp / 520 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque, making it the beefiest homologated track weapon made by the AMG division since the client program started.
The mill drives the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential transmission and manual LSD. Launch times remain to be measured, but the company claims the GT2 spec is faster than the GT3.
The wheels feature a centerlock design and measure 18 inches across. The suspension makes use of adjustable shocks and configurable sway bars.
The aero package has also been revised: the vented hood is new, the bumper at the front is different, and the swan-neck rear wing offers a host of adjustment options.
