New Mercedes-AMG GT spotted driven outside nearly camo-free

Mercedes-Benz is getting a new generation of its AMG GT supercar ready to rumble, car spies are telling us with a batch of shots suggesting that the launch is mere weeks away. In all likelihood, the new GT will look like a closed-top Mercedes-AMG SL and use familiar engines.

The camera-wielding crowd has managed to nab as many as three test cars on the streets today. Judging by the exhaust tip configuration, the yellow one is an AMG GT 43 spec. As such, it may get its drivetrain from the AMG SL 43, basically a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged to 381 PS (376 hp / 280 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque.

The green car with what looks like a charging port must be a hybrid. As such, it may wind up with the same powertrain as the range-topping C-Class AMG. A 2.0-liter turbo mill assisted by an electric motor drive the latter with 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW) and 865 Nm (638 lb-ft) of torque.

And then there is the mysterious green car with a fixed wing, which some sources believe could be the Edition 1 spec. This one might reach the market powered by a “pure” 4.0-liter V8. The same engine makes 476 or 585 metric horsepower (469 or 577 hp; 350 or 430 kW, respectively) in the AMG SL, depending on your chosen version.

Aside from having a fixed roof, the new AMG GT could debut with only two seats in the cabin and tweaked suspension, which would be in line with its “thrilling driver’s car” positioning.
