New Mercedes-AMG GT teased with a V8 and AWD

Mercedes-AMG has posted a short video dedicated to the second generation of its GT sports car. The full reveal remains scheduled on August 19, but some details are already official.

In the teaser vid, the new GT is being driven along a serpentine mountain road. Badges and close-ups flash by, including ‘V8 Biturbo’ and ‘4Matic’. Yellow brake calipers can also be seen.

The technical parameters remain undisclosed. Judging by the spy shots from earlier, the V8 could be offered as a part of a plug-in hybrid system, although it may not be the only option.

The automaker will reveal the new GT during the Monterey Car Week. It is official that the second generation runs on the same chassis as the latest AMG SL convertible and, just like that car, has all-wheel drive. It looks like the GT will also transform from two- into four-seater in its latest iteration, like the SL did.

Note that we are only comparing the two luxury cars because of their identical platform. Despite being a sporty enough ride, the SL still prioritizes comfort and luxury above all else, whereas the GT is more driver-focused.
