Opus tunes up the Mercedes-AMG GT R like it did the Black Series

German tuning company Opus caused quite a sensation with its extreme take on the already exclusive Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series in early 2021, and a similar range of improvements is now also available for the GT R and GT R Pro.

The project is called OPUS R777 and comes with a wide range of improvements over the stock car, from a slightly enlarged rear wing through 4-way adjustable Öhlins TTX to an engine upgrade. The latter consists of a new turbocharger, a special catalytic converter, an intercooler and new ECUs for the engine and the transmission. The net result is 777 PS (766 hp / 571 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque.

Some of you may wonder why such an extensive array of aftermarket modifications results in a new power increase of 17 metric horses. Opus has a very convincing explanation. Apparently, the number do not reflect the actual track dynamics of the car. The company has a production-capable workshop at the Nürburgring, and has spent the winter perfecting the tuning kit. In its current state, the tuned car is more than 10 seconds faster on the North Loop than its stock counterpart.
