The Mercedes-AMG GT R coupe offers superb performance, handling and suspension, but some owners apparently struggle to call it a supercar with ‘only’ 585 PS (577 hp / 430 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque going to the wheels.
If, for any reason, you happen to be one of them, consider a radical solution Hamburg-based shop SR Tuning is offering starting from this week. A pair of TTH 880 turbochargers, BMW filters, new downpipes and rewritten control logic culminate in a boost to 850 PS (838 hp / 625 kW) along with 930 Nm (686 lb-ft) of torque.
Tuned to the hilt, the AMG GT R zaps from standstill to its first 100 kilometers per hour (62 mph) in 3.3 seconds, doubling that acceleration in just 7.8 seconds and tripling it in another 10.8. The ceiling lies as high as 330 km/h (205 mph).
The tuner did not find the exterior in need of fiddling with, so the only visual highlight of the project comes in the guise of Schmidt FS Line three-piece forged rims featuring polished beds and black spokes. Inside the cabin, there is a new multi-function steering wheel borrowed from the latest S-Class, while the rest appears to stay the same.
