It can be hard to believe, but after five years of waiting Mercedes-AMG has finally brought itself to showing us the production version of its much-troubled hypercar, the One. The overdue premiere will be held tomorrow, June 1.
The entire planned production batch of 275 units has been long sold out despite numerous issues the company ran into trying to adapt a Formula One engine to be viable on public roads. All customers have received warnings that a full engine overhaul was mandatory every 50,000 kilometers (31,068 miles). Having said this, we doubt there would be many owners who would put that much mileage on a car like this. In all likelihood, the vast majority of the AMG Ones will settle down in private collections.
As of right now, we know that the vehicle starts around $2,700,000 USD or so and comes powered by a quartet of electric motors, as well as a 1.6-liter racing-spec turbo. Their combined output exceeds 1,000 horsepower.
The hypercar takes advantage of a sophisticated AWD system to reach 200 km/h (124 mph) from standstill in under six seconds, and proceeds to accelerate past 350 km/h (217 mph). Its all-electric range is rather limited at 25 km (15.5 miles). Stay tuned to learn more details tomorrow.
