Apparently, Mercedes-AMG is regretting its decision to strip the C-Class and E-Class of their emission-happy V8 engine, Carscoops reports quoting a source inside the company.
We are told that the company may bring back the 4.0-liter V8 known as the M177 as a part of a new Euro7-compliant hybrid powertrain. Only AMG vehicles will be shipping with it. Apparently, the latest generation of the C- and E-Class only needs a minor structural redesign to accommodate this larger block.
The insider claims that the V8 will not become available until a few years later, though. The M177 mill currently supplies the power to the range-topping S-Class hybrid, the AMG S 63 E Performance. That car produces 802 PS (791 hp / 590 kW) and needs 3.3 seconds for its 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint.
