Mercedes-Benz nabbed testing a maxed-out CLE Coupe

Mercedes-Benz will be replacing the C- and E-Class coupe and convertible with a single new lineup named CLE. Judging by the recent spy shots, it will include AMG versions as well.

Specifically, there is a theory that the AMG CLE 63 may reach the showrooms armed with the same powertrain as the newest C 63, which is based on a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine. Motor1 believes the photos made today depict just such an AMG version. Note, for example, the enlarged front air intakes and the checkered camo on the radiator grille obviously disguising the famous Panamericana pattern. A spoiler and four trapezoid tailpipes can be seen at the back.

An added hatch in the bumper suggests the car is a hybrid: it looks like a typical EV charging port hatch. This reinforces the theory that the CLE 63 gets its entire drivetrain from the C-Class AMG. In its top variant, the model pumps out a massive 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW), sprinting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.4 seconds.

The standard CLE test car was first sighted on the road several weeks ago. This suggests we might see it premiere before the end of the year.
