Sport Auto decided to see how well the new Mercedes-AMG C43 would perform on an actual racetrack after losing its trademark twin-turbo V6. This video provides the definitive answer.
The driver was able to complete the Hockenheimring lap in 2 minutes 2.3 seconds, narrowly surpassing the main competitor – the BMW M340i xDrive. The C43 proved to be 1.1 seconds faster than the BMW, but slower than, for example, the Renault Megane RS Trophy-R FWD with its lap time of 1:59.2. Then again, comparing a bulky luxury saloon against a hot hatch wouldn’t make any sense for many buyers.
The fastest production car Sport Auto has tested on the Hockenheimring is the McLaren Senna with a lap time of 1:40.8. Trailing it on the second and third positions are the AMG GT Black Series (1:43.3) and the Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR (1:43.5).
